Defense

Adjoining Lawrence County is Naval Support Activity Crane. NSA Crane is the third largest naval installation in the world and makes defense a huge economic driver for Southern Indiana. NSWC Crane’s total focus is to support the Warfighter by leveraging its technical capabilities for the rapidly changing combat environment. NSWC Crane’s personnel and preeminent facilities set the standard for excellence in acquisition, engineering and sustainment. NSWC Crane provides comprehensive support for complex military systems spanning design, development, deployment and sustainment in three focus areas: Electronic Warfare, Strategic Missions and Expeditionary Warfare. Established October 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. Crane Army maintains up to one third of the DoD's conventional ammunition inventory.

Radius Indiana serves as the voice for Crane outside the gates and assists with growing the private defense sector and connecting Crane with community, regional and state leadership. With direct access to Crane, defense industry companies can connect directly with decision makers.

Battery Innovation Center (BIC)
The BIC is a collaborative initiative designed to incorporate leadership from renowned universities, government agencies, and commercial enterprises to focus on the rapid development, testing and commercialization of safe, reliable and lightweight energy storage systems for defense and commercial customers. The BIC’s mission is to accelerate innovation in the field of battery technology by providing access to the entire spectrum of R&D to commercialization, including low volume production, in a single 40,000 square foot facility.

Under one roof and with virtual connections to partners’ research and manufacturing facilities, the BIC will be capable of managing all aspects of the battery life cycle:

- Elementary cell concept
- Cell research and development

- Pack systems engineering, testing and certification
- Low volume manufacturing

East Gate Business Center (EGBTC)
Founded in 2008, EGBTC is currently leasing office and manufacturing space for industrial and technology companies. EGBTC helps potential tenants hit the ground running by providing furnished offices, conference rooms, research and development labs, and high speed internet. EGBTC supports businesses needing office, warehousing, and manufacturing space ranging from 2,000 sq.ft. up to 200,000 sq.ft. by providing move in ready space as well as build to suit options.

Located within close proximity to Crane Naval Base, Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, and Camp Atterbury, EGBTC is an ideal fit for high tech companies and defense contractors. In addition, EGBTC is located within a HUB Zone, Military Enhanced Area, and Enterprise Zone, which offers many business and tax incentives.
